WHY INDIA?

India is the world's 6th largest economy and is growing at 8% a year.
India is due to become a full member of the WTO in 2006. Import tariffs are due to disappear encouraging a boom in exports to the country.

The value of mineral production is 11% of the country’s total industrial production
Coal production needs to be increased by over 450 million tonnes in the next 15 years requiring an investment of about US$20 billion
It is expected that the coal mining industry will be thrown open to the private sector, providing opportunities for mining companies, equipment suppliers and consultants
India is the largest producer of mica blocks and splitting, and ranks amongst the top producers of chromite, barites, bauxite and iron ore.
The value of the Indian mineral production industry for February 2004 was Rs.7.53bn, against Rs.9.7bn in February 2005, which is an increase of 29%
